What is the TOEIC?

-Test of international English
-Two Hour test
-200 Multiple choice questions
-2 sections Listening and Reading (100 in each)


Listening (45min)
-Part 1 picture identification
-Part 2 Question/Response
-Part 3 Short conversation
-Part 4 Short talks


Reading (1 hour 15 minutes)
-Part 5 Incomplete sentences
-Part 6 Text completion
-Part 7 Reading comprehension


Listening test- 4 parts


·      Part 1 Picture Identification (10 questions)
o   10 black and white photo graphs
o   Who is in the photo
o   What objects are visible
o   Where was the photo taken
o   What are the professions, the actions, the positions
o   Why is the photo taken?


·      Part 2 Question/Response (30 questions)
o   30 questions and responses
o   Each questions is followed by 3 responses
o   What type of question is being asked?
o   Listen for question words (who what where when why)
o   Do not expect the same verb in the response


·      Part 3 Short conversations
o   30 questions
o   Ten four-part conversations between two people
o   After each conversation there will be 3 questions
o   Read the questions before
o   Identify who the speakers are


·      Part 4 Short talks
o   30 questions of short speeches
o   may include weather reports, announcements, travel advisories
o   each question has 4 multiple choice responses
o   Read as many questions as you can
o   Focus on the introduction to determine the context
o   Listen for key information

Reading Test- 3 parts


·      Part 5 Incomplete sentences (40 Questions)
o   Sentences with a blank and 4 answers
o   Look for parts of speech
o   Look for prefixes and suffixes
o   Think about tense/time/procession


·      Part 6 text completion
o   3 texts which each contain four numbered blanks
o   Scan text to determine what type of document it is
o   Read the questions to see fi they look for specific info
o   Analyze grammar structure


·      Part 7 Reading comprehension
o   You must read several documents and answer multiple choses
o   Can be single passages (announcements, news articles, letters)

§  You will have to answer 2-4 questions
o   Double passages- first document presents info, second responds
§  20 questions
§  you will have to answer 5 questions
o   Skim to focus on the subject
o   What type of document is it?
o   Read the title to determine what it is
o   Cross check information and dates

What Is the TOEFL iBT Test?

More than 8,500 colleges, agencies and other institutions in over 130 countries accept TOEFL scores. Where and When Can I Take the TOEFL iBT Test?

The TOEFL test has more test dates (more than 50 per year) and locations (4,500 test centers in 165 countries) than any other English-language test in the world. You can retake the test as many times as you wish, but you cannot take it more than once in a 12-day period. If you already have a test appointment, you cannot register for another test date that is within 12 days of your existing appointment.
